Effective and secure migration to Google Cloud for Protector Insurance
Protector Insurance chose Google Cloud as the platform for its IT infrastructure, systems, and applications. With guidance and support from Google experts at Computas, the migration process went seamlessly.
Despite successfully managing its own IT infrastructure through three dedicated data centers, Protector Forsikring recognized clear advantages and greater opportunities in migrating to the Google Cloud platform. The company continues to expand into new markets, relying on robust data systems as a foundation.
“Our goal in migrating to the cloud was to achieve increased scalability, reliability, and security. We also aimed to take a step towards a greener future and lay the groundwork for further innovation, exploring possibilities such as artificial intelligence, including generative AI,” says Marius Austnes, Head of IT Development at Protector Forsikring.
With a strong in-house IT department, Protector Forsikring intended to take ownership of the project. However, given the stringent regulations imposed by the Financial Supervisory Authority on insurance companies, specialized knowledge and practical experience were crucial for the success of such a migration. The company relied on expert guidance throughout the process, seeking advisors with specialized expertise in Google Cloud to navigate the journey securely.
“Based on previous experience with Computas from other projects, it was natural for us to turn to them for help. Not only are they a pleasure to work with, but they are also arguably the leading consultancy company on Google Cloud in Norway,” adds Austnes, highlighting that Google has also been a reliable and crucial partner throughout the process.
Migrated one month ahead of schedule
To provide guidance during the migration, four advisors from Computas assisted with key expertise, training, and knowledge in identity management, Kubernetes, backup, network, and security.
“Working alongside Google, we were able to empower the internal resources at Protector Forsikring with the knowledge and expertise necessary for a secure migration. This involved migration strategy, workshops, and regular meetings,” says Ruth Marie Dahl Jensen, senior advisor at Computas. She adds, “This became especially crucial when Protector Forsikring determined that they would not be able to carry out the migration at the originally scheduled time and decided to complete the entire migration one month ahead of the plan.”
She commends Protector Forsikring for their collaboration and their understanding of the needs surrounding a successful and secure migration.
“The most common obstacle to a successful cloud migration is a lack of specialized expertise, often only discovered later in the process. Protector Forsikring has been ahead of the curve throughout, making critical decisions early in the process.”
Google Cloud Partner of the Year in Norway
In September, Computas was awarded the title of Google Cloud Partner of the Year in Norway during the Google Cloud Summit in Stockholm. The decision was based on several criteria, including growth in the client portfolio, investment in competence-building through certifications and specializations, as well as market activity, such as speaking engagements.
“We have built a unique position in the Nordic region on Google’s platform by consistently investing in competence-building and certifications since 2015. This is appreciated by our clients and is often the reason they choose us as their provider. It is also an integral part of our culture and a natural focus for our employees,” said Trond Eilertsen, CEO of Computas, during the award presentation
