Pensions can be a complex topic for many people. Storebrand wanted to help its corporate clients demonstrate the value of pension savings to their employees. With the assistance of Computas, Storebrand developed the ‘My Pension’ app. This app increases understanding that pensions are personal savings that can be managed and watched grow month by month. Users now have a closer relationship with their own savings, with 30% using the app at least once a month.

Storebrand is one of the largest pension providers on the market today. In 2018, they sought to develop an app to simplify and communicate pension concepts to the average person. The app was designed to foster an active relationship between end-users and their money, providing knowledge about how to manage and invest funds according to individual preferences. The challenge lay in the fact that people generally have a low level of understanding about pensions and are often reluctant to delve into this aspect of their personal finances.

When the project commenced in August 2018, Computas initially set out to understand the general public’s knowledge of pensions. It became evident that there was a low level of understanding about pension savings. Many people expressed feelings of guilt about their lack of pension planning, often citing a vague intention to address the issue in the future but feeling too distant to take action.

Through the app, Storebrand aimed to assist employees of their corporate clients in understanding that pensions are a matter that should be addressed during one’s working life. The goal was to help individuals secure their financial future and facilitate a comfortable retirement. The objective was to develop a tool that explained pensions in the simplest possible terms, providing the necessary overview and information to enable individuals to make informed decisions about their own pensions.

High User Benefit

By gaining a deep understanding of the problem and the target audience’s needs, we developed a variety of concepts. These concepts were then user-tested with focus groups composed of existing Storebrand customers. Based on the selected concept, Computas developed a solution that provides end-users with a clear overview, distinguishing between different savings types. In addition to displaying the total amount saved, the app presents projections made by Storebrand, estimating the potential pension at a specified retirement age. The solution aims to raise awareness of individual plans and the actions that can be taken, such as adjusting the savings profile to potentially increase returns. It was also crucial that the app aligned with Storebrand’s web design to ensure a consistent look and feel across all platforms.

Storebrand’s corporate clients are extremely satisfied with the solution. ‘My Pension’ makes it easier for them to communicate pension solutions to their own employees in a clear and understandable manner. At some client companies, 60% of employees have already adopted the app, and 30% of users utilize it at least once a month. ‘My Pension’ has contributed to a greater awareness among end-users regarding their own savings, prompting them to take action within the app and adjust their savings profiles as desired.
